Thank you for choosing Thames & Kosmos and for your interest in our TK1 Telescope & Astronomy Kit.
Here are some helpful instructions for aligning the viewfinder and scope on your TK1 Telescope.
First, during the daytime, insert the eyepiece with the smallest amount of magnification (20mm). Now, we want to align the finder to the main scope. Find something in the distance that is about 1 to 2 miles away like a tree or a telephone pole. Find it in the center of view of the main scope then adjust the viewfinder, using the small screws for the position and turning the eyepiece for focus, to centralize the object in the middle of the main scope in the viewfinder.
If you can't see anything in the main scope during the day, turn the knob on the main scope (near the eyepiece) clockwise so that its focus is as far out as it can be. Then, slowly turn the knob near the eyepiece counterclockwise. Eventually, you will be able to see the light passing through. As you continue to fine-tune it, move the scope around to find that item in the distance, and continue to focus until you can see it clearly.
Now, check to make sure that the main scope and the viewfinder are in alignment, meaning the item you were focusing on is in the center. Now that your scope and viewfinder are in alignment, on a clear night when you can see the Moon with your naked eye, find it in the viewfinder. Now, using the same fine-tuning techniques, try to focus on the Moon in the main scope, using the 20mm eyepiece.
