Thank you for choosing Thames & Kosmos. We appreciate your interest in our Robotics Workshop kit.
Because you are using your computer to write your code, you will need to download a driver that allows your computer to communicate with the CB1 Controller via the USB cable.
(Keep in mind, because only tablets have the capability to communicate with the CB1 core controller via Bluetooth, your robot will have to stay connected to your PC via the USB while your program is running. If you would rather use the tablet version, you can download it using one of the following links: Apple App Store | Google Play Store.)
If you wish to use the PC version, click HERE to download a zip file containing the automatic setup file.
Unzip the file and make a note of the folder it was unzipped to. Next, locate the unzipped file (CDM21228_Setup.exe), right-click on it and click on Run as Administrator. Enter any necessary credentials and the Installation Wizard will open. You will see a window that looks like this:
Click on Extract. On the next screen, click on Next. On the next screen, look over the License Agreement and select the bubble next to "I accept this agreement" and click on Next. On the last screen of the Installation Wizard, click Finish.
Now, whenever an FTDI device (like your CB1 core controller) is plugged into the PC, the necessary VCP and D2XX drivers will be automatically installed.
Plug in your CB1 core controller and open up the CB1 Blockly App. Give it a minute to recognize that your robot is connected, (the blue light on the CB1 core controller will remain solid) and try running the program.
If the FT232R USB UART fails to automatically install or is not recognized, please click HERE to download the driver manually.
Now, you can choose the appropriate file so your computer can recognize the CB1 core controller as a COM port. Once it finishes installing, turn the controller on, and open the CB1 Blockly app. The blue light on the CB1 core controller will remain solid.
