Thank you for choosing Thames & Kosmos and for your interest in our CHEM C3000 kit.
The CHEM C3000 kit does contain small quantities of materials which, in terms of transport, are classified as hazardous. However because the hazardous materials are in small quantities, the kit complies with 49 CFR 173.4 and therefore receives a “Small Quantity Exception” for domestic transportation. I have included some additional details below, but because each country will have its own regulations, we suggest checking the specific regulations of your air carrier and with the country that you will be visiting for more specific details.
Domestically, there is a Small Quantity Exception for Air Transportation, 49 CFR 173.4a, which is approved by UPS, FedEx (page 8), and USPS. The small quantity exemption would still require additional labeling for air transport (see below), but no shipping papers or other hazard labels would be required.
Accepted quantities of hazardous materials packaged, marked, and otherwise offered and transported in accordance with this section must be durably and legibly marked with the following marking: View or download PDF
(1) The “*” must be replaced by the primary hazard class, or when assigned, the division of each of the hazardous materials contained in the package. The “**” must be replaced by the name of the shipper or consignee if not shown elsewhere on the package.
(2) The marking must not be less than 100 mm (3.9 inches) by 100 mm (3.9 inches), and must be durable and clearly visible.
Please Note: I would not recommend attempting to take this item as carry-on luggage on a flight. Again, if you are considering this, I would suggest that you check with your carrier for approval first and provide them with all of the information presented here.
I hope that this was helpful. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate in sending us an email at support@thamesandkosmos.com.
