Thank you for choosing Thames & Kosmos and for your interest in our Robotics: Smart Machines - Sidekick kit.
Here are the links to download the Robotics: Smart Machines - Sidekick app.
Apple iTunes Store (Apple devices)
Google Play Store (Android devices)
** DO NOT try to connect to the robot via Bluetooth from your device's settings. You MUST connect the Bluetooth directly inside the app itself. **
Helpful hint: Once you download the app, before opening it, you will want to enable Location Services by following these steps:
- From your home screen, enter your Settings menu.
- Tap on “Location services” or “Location access” – whichever your phone shows.
- From this screen, you can toggle on or off any of the location services your phone offers.
Next, when you open the app for the first time, you must accept the privacy statement. If you declined it, please uninstall the app, download it again and accept this time.
Now, choose the rover or robot, depending on which model you assembled. Then select one of the four modes, most users start with the DRIVE mode, using the REMOTE control option.
Now that you've chosen a mode, you will need to establish the Bluetooth connection to your Sidekick robot. Click the gray Bluetooth icon in the upper right corner of your app.
At this point, you may be prompted to allow the app to access the device location. Select the "Allow while using the app" or "Allow once" option. If you decline, you will not be able to connect to your Sidekick.
After a brief moment, a pop-up will appear. Click on the name "MAZZY" (This was the robot's name from the comic in the instruction manual!)
Once this is set up, you can quickly see if your Bluetooth connection is active:
If you've received a continuous message that the app is "Searching for Drivers", that's likely because your phone is running on an OS which is incompatible with the current version of the Sidekick app.
If you've noticed this issue, please send an email with a screenshot of your error, along with information about what kind of phone, and the OS version it is using, to support@thamesandkosmos.com. This will help us to broaden the app's availability.
